Navigate 4.1.1 Trend Impact Quest

Select the trend that will make the most impact on digital learning over the next five years and discuss in your respective blog.

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer but the trend that will have the most impact yet in my opinion only a temporary one is Mobile Learning.  This newest "fad" is sweeping the country as school districts look for ways to provide the public the illusion that public education is remaining relevant and in tune with the latest technology.  I have worked in school districts that have embraced the BYOD concept...Bring Your Own Device.  Ont the surface it looks harmless enough and seems to be tied to educational attainment.  However, if you look at the man behind the curtain, this is simply a tool that school administrators embrace because they know parents will not back them.

Cell phones create the majority of problems faced by teachers and administrators.  When one considers the Pandora's box opened by this technology; sexting, cyber bulling, constant distractions...just not worth it.  Given that teachers can simply utilize lap top carts if technology is needed, left scratching my head as to the educational rationale for the BYOD program.

Well, here we are in 2016 and the latest car to chase by public education is the BYOD program.  So, Mobile Learning is and will continue to be the trend for the next few years.  Only when the public sees the menace created by this program and how the costs outweigh the benefits will this program die a slow death.  As it typical of the majority of trends in public education, just hang on as the pendulum will swing and soon we will be hearing a call for "Back to Basics".
