Navigate 3.1.3 Tools within the LMS Quest

Reflect for a moment on the LMS used for the quests in this skill. Then, list each tool available within the LMS in your blog. Which tools would be most valuable in the online classroom? Which would be of least value?

Really hard to rank the available tools for students on my created site as they are all necessary for successful completion of the course.  The syllabus and accompanying sample lesson plan  is critical as it provides students with a timeline of coursework.  However, really don't ever seeing myself utilizing a survey unless it was a review of my effectiveness as an instructor. During my time as an online student, the discussion boards were always my favorite assignment.  While I can see utilizing this tool, the blog still escapes me.  Guess some folks see discussion boards and blogs as interchangeable which leaves me wondering why have both?

Many of the tools available for a site seem somewhat redundant but that's probably because I have yet to fully utilize them in a class.  Just like in a traditional classroom, the building of an online course will take time and constant changing.  As new tools become available and old ones fade away, online/classroom instructors must remain informed and willing to adapt their lesson plans or websites or both to new ideas but always with the educational standards in mind.  I'm still left with the feeling that a large portion of online lessons simply go for the attractiveness factor and I question their educational use.  Sorry, just me being an old dog again.
