Create 4.1.1 Define and Explain Learning Object Authoring Tools Quest

Based on an understanding of learning object authoring tools, locate five tools–three tools that are free to use and two that are fee/subscription based (note that some web 2.0 tools may also serve as object-authoring tools). Post findings to your blog, as well as an explanation as to how these tools might be used. Make sure to investigate what others have posted.

Free tools:
1. What2Learn is a free tool that allows user to make interactive quizzes.  These quizzes could be integrated into presentations that allow the instructor to check for understanding during the lesson instead of waiting until the end.
2.  ClassTools.net offers unique methods to jazz up what might otherwise be boring presentations.  The Breaking News Generator could be utilized to provide feedback to online students in a creative and humorous manner.
3.  Quandry allows the teacher to create case-studies for their online classes.  This tool allows instructors to create higher level thinking activities that enhance student's critical thinking skills.

Fee based tools:
1.  Dotsub is a fee based tool that translates videos.  The included subtitles allow foreign language teachers the opportunity to provide additional assignments for students.
2.  Toondoo has a trial which is free but then a fee is charged.  The application is a natural draw to students who demand color and a creative platform.  This tool could be utilized to create comic strip biographies of historical figures.
